Save the Flea Market at Eastern Market! #FleaMarketatEasternMarket

For those of you residing in the DC metropolitan area, I wanted to share with you a campaign created to save a well-known and treasured weekend market in Washington, DC - The Flea Market at Eastern Market.
Under a development proposal for the site of Hine Junior High School - which will go before the DC Zoning Board on June 14 - most of the Flea Market at Eastern Market will be eliminated. Despite pledges of the developers to preserve the market, albeit at half the current size, the proposal actually cuts by two-thirds the space for vendors and customers, eliminating 38,000 square feet of market space from the current configuration. Water features, street furniture and plantings are continually being added to the design that will further reduce usable space.
The Save the Flea Market campaign started last week, with an online petition posted on change.org and we are asking you to support this great market by signing it!
If you haven't been to The Flea Market at Eastern Market, the market provides up to 150 spaces for vendors and approximately 15,000 people visit the flea market on a typical weekend. Everything from antique furniture to maps, art, photography, clothing and textiles are sold. The Flea Market at Eastern Market has been a vibrant incubator space for small businesses as well as a treasured neighborhood meeting place. When the original Eastern Market building was gutted by fire in 2006 The Flea Market at Eastern Market carried on. It’s a neighborhood institution and a landmark in its own right.
Eastern Market holds a very special place in my heart. When I started my brand years ago, I would sell my goods every Sunday at the market. My husband and I would wake up each morning at 7am, show up bright and early at 8am, and setup by 10am. For a few years, all our Sundays were spent at Eastern Market. We became good friends with the other vendors and had our regular customers who would come by frequently to shop our collection. Eastern Market was a great platform for us to showcase and sell our goods in DC and connect with others. Without the market, I don't know where our brand, DeNada would be!
So if you enjoy The Flea Market at Eastern Market, please take the time to visit http://www.change.org/petitions/save-the-flea-market-at-eastern-markett and sign the petition today!
Much love,

We "Heart" Our Neighborhood, Bloomingdale!
Whenever I tell people that our studio is located in Bloomingdale, I tend to get the follow-up question, "where is Bloomingdale?" In DC, people know where Georgetown, Dupont and/or Adams Morgan are located. In the recent years, there have been a flock of new developments and small businesses popping up in Washington, DC. Because of this growth, areas such as Logan Circle, U Street, and including Bloomingdale are booming!
Bloomingdale is a wonderful little neighborhood in DC. Our neighbors include a mix of young professionals, young families, artists and college students. There are many small and locally owned businesses in our area, which we love to support: cafes, restaurants, bars, yoga studio and even a few retail spots. We even have our very own outdoor market during the weekends, which my husband and I like to go and purchase our produce.
This quaint neighborhood, in my opinion, is very fresh, young, and stylish. Whenever I venture out of my studio to work at one of my favorite spots, Big Bear Cafe, I can't help but take a few minutes to people watch and see what outfits stand out!
What can I say? I love Bloomingdale, and I am very happy to be living/working in this area. Here are a few photos of some of many favorite spots in Bloomingdale. Enjoy!

Happy Mothers Day!!
Happy Mother’s Day!
Today is a very special day for me as I will have the
pleasure to celebrate my first Mother’s Day as a new mommy! Last November, my beautiful baby boy, Atticus was born. He is my pride and joy, and I love every moment I spend with him. Being a new mommy gives me a greater respect and appreciation for all mothers out there, especially for my own mother. Raising one child is challenging. My mother raised the four of us! She is in my mind the best mother ever, and I hope to be as great to my own son as she was with me.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there and most of all to two of the most amazing moms I know personally, my beautiful Mom and wonderful sister Gladys!
Always,
Virginia Arrisueño
